Wow! I haven't updated in a while. See what having a baby does.....
Elliott Reid is doing well and we are still trying to adjust at home. I must thank you all for your well wishes and words of encouragement! My wife and I are getting sleep, however, so things could be worse.
As we quickly approach CMT time, we will be having students work on CMT - like work just so that they have an idea of what the real tests will be like. Since this will be the first time that they will have to take so many standardized tests, the practice will help in easing any fears students may have.
In class we have been talking a lot lately about MLK, civil rights, and the inauguration. We all got to see it live! Many students came away from it saying that they felt special while watching it. Many couldn't believe all the pomp and circumstance. One said - I thought it was just going to be a speech. I'm glad that we were able to have them take part in, what was, an historical day.
Hope 2009 is treating you well!

Holiday Fun

In Grade 3, we have a tradition here at Fawn Hollow where students get to switch as a class, see each third grade teacher and do a different holiday activity. We call it Holiday Fun Day! However, with so many third grade classes, we now have Holiday Fun Days! Students will do 2 different holiday activities each day for the next three days. Students will do my activity when I can fit it in. Students have a great time and it's a way to not only learn but to relax and enjoy each other's company from the demands of the the third grade responsibilities. It's not what it used to be, folks!
Ask your child what they did today. I'm sure they had a good time!

Giving Thanks!

The class recently created a "quilt" which is on the bulletin board outside the room. Students wrote and drew a few things they were thankful for. Using Wordle, students then created a word cloud of things they were thankful for this season. Many of you saw the work during conferences, but please feel free to take a quick peek at the board - especially if you'll be in the building for the Turkey Trot.
I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving! Share your Thanksgiving stories or customs under comments.

Halloween

FYI - On Friday, October 31, we will be celebrating Halloween with our annual class party and school parade. Our class party will be from 1:45 - 2:30 and the parade will start at 2:30. Weather permitting, we will be parading around the outside of the school. Parents are welcome to come and stand outside to watch the children as they parade. Unfortunately, I can not invite you to the class party due to restrictions with regards to the number of people in the building.
After the parade, parents will be allowed to pick-up their child from the classroom.
